Every first Friday of the month, we check do our best to fill listeners in on what is happening arts-wise around the listening area in terms of first friday events and other arts related happenings. 

As we suspected, much is happening across northern Minnesota... In Grand Rapids you can catch jazz at the VFW, author Katy Tessman will be reading her children's book Our Mama is a Beautiful Garden at the Village Bookstore and the MacRostie Art Center will be showing the work of Douglas Ross, Linda Snouffer, Nancy Bundy and David Luke.  Click herefor a full listing of Grand Rapids events.  The Ely Folk School is offering classes on rug hooking, tapestry weaving and chaga mushrooms among many others through October.  Bemidji's first Friday events include an artist reception for Native artists Gordon Coons and Anna Johnson with a special artist talk at 6pm at the Watermark Art Centerand open mic night at Headwaters School of Music and Arts.  Click herefor the full Bemidji First Friday listing.  If you're in the Nevis area, take a moment to check out the happenings at Terrapin Station!  If you're in Virginia, check out the Lyric Center for the Arts!  So much going on.  Listen to the links above for the full reports.
