Turkey's government has ordered the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of domestic birds in an effort to control an outbreak of avian flu. The virus has killed three people and infected at least 15.

U.N. agencies say Turkey is taking adequate measures, but warns neighboring countries to be on alert.
