John Latimer gives a full, weekly phenology report every Tuesday. Looking back in his 30+ years of phenology journals, John compares old observations with what’s happening in the natural world today and connects that information with personal experiences of his own and others in the region.
This week he talks about wolves, fox and coyotes preparing for mating season, a recent hiking trip to Sax-Zim Bog where he observed a variety of birds including evening grosbeaks, chickadees, and woodpeckers, and the subtle and powerful changes taking place in the trees and bushes of the area! John also heard his first black capped chickadee singing its phoebe song this week and caught a glimpse of a long-tailed weasel!
Spring is coming, folks! The phenological signs are all around us. What have you noticed?
