You can catch long-running folk-rock band Known Only Locally at Brigid’s Pub in Bemidji, Friday at 6 p.m. With roots going back to the '70s, the band has a rotating lineup of musicians led by Kristi Miller, with Gary Broste, Eric Carlson, Miriam Tell, Mauro Gutierrez and more. The group often melds different generations of the Bemidji music scene.
On Saturday, The Brothers Burn Mountain and Tattletale are playing at Bumpy’s Place in Grand Rapids as part of the widespread Highway 38 garage sales. The Brothers Burn Mountain will play at 3 p.m. The duo fuses blues, folk and psychedelic rock, and are known for their drum-heavy and improvisational sound.
Later in the evening, a trimmed-down version of Ethio-jazz band Tattletale is playing at 6:30 p.m. The group has made a name for itself with global funk, jazz and jam live shows. This Saturday, they will play as a quartet with Josh Parlanti on guitar, McKeon Hugh Roberts on bass, Don Vidal on sax and Dane Tudors on drums.
On Sunday, there is a KAXE-sponsored Community Open House Jam in Grand Rapids at Rapids Brewing Co. from 2-7 p.m. The event honors four families whose musical traditions have long impacted the area: the LaPlant, Miltich, Downing and Aultman families. All pickers, musicians, singers and observers are welcome to join in the afternoon for open jam sessions, storytelling and community.
