The heart of Saturday night is live music in Coleraine, Nisswa, Laporte and Ball Club!

First up, The Bewilderness is playing Smoke on the Water in Coleraine at 5 p.m. Saturday. They are a new trio led by Christopher David Hanson with his son Cameron Erickson on drums and Taylor Shykes on bass, blending old-time acoustic music with modern rhythms in an exploratory folk-rock style. Their debut self-titled album dropped last month.

In Nisswa, also at 5 p.m., BrassZilla are playing Big Axe Brewing. They are a brass quartet with trumpet, trombone, sousaphone and drums, mixing New Orleans jazz with blues, funk and rock in a style they call “hip shakin' beer jazz.”

At 6 p.m., The International Treasures will be at the Popple Bar in Laporte. The Doyle Turner and Ted Hajnasiewicz duo play rock, country, blues and more, and they just released a four-song covers EP in July, with guests like Sarah Morris and Nikki Lemire.

The final show on this all-Saturday Setlist is Obsidian James and pink marlena at the Ball Club Basketball Court, 7 p.m. James is an Afro-Indigenous R&B singer and rapper who just put out his debut album, Impact. pink marlena is a saxophonist from the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa whose free jazz and futuristic sound draws from both John Coltrane and her Indigenous culture.

The concert is part of the Fire in the Village-hosted Art of The Game event, celebrating a new mural that artist Annie Humphrey painted, with a 3-on-3 tournament and a fashion show. All events take place near the Ball Club Powwow Grounds and are open to all.
