KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features Tattletale, Known Only Locally and Friends, Kelley Smith and Jon Edwards.

It's a Friday night special on The Setlist this week. We've got three shows for you to choose from in Grand Rapids, Bemidji and Aitkin.

Tattletale is a psychedelic jazz fusion band from Grand Rapids made up of numerous longtime members of the local music scene. They are playing Friday night at 6 p.m. at Bumpy’s Place (31133 Wabana Road) near Grand Rapids for the HWY 38 Garage Sales. The group features members of bands like Blew Munday, Wild Horses, Dream On Nilsson, Mississippi Hot Club and more, and play an eclectic brand of dance music inspired by funk, jazz and world music.

Over in Bemidji, Known Only Locally and Friends are playing at Brigid’s Irish Pub at 6:30 p.m. The long-running Bemidji folk rock group has gone through many lineup changes over the years, lately seeing original members Kristi Miller and Gary Broste joined by Mauro Gutierrez, Eric Carlson and young fiddler Sawyer Corcoran, combining multiple generations of the Bemidji music scene.

Finally, Kelley Smith and Jon Edwards will be at The Terrace in downtown Aitkin at 7 p.m. Smith is an old-time folk singer with an enchanting voice who plays banjo and guitar. Her music blends traditional and original songs, like the ones on her Moon Child EP. She was recently announced as the new artistic director of the Grassroots Concert Series in Nisswa. Opener Edwards is a Duluth-based folk-blues musician deeply inspired by his mentor Charlie Parr.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
