Live music taking place July 24-26, 2025 in Northern Minnesota.

KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features The Wicked Bees, a block party in Chisholm, Katy Tessman & The Turnbuckles and The Lonely Loons.

Covering our local music scene is one of the many ways we connect you to the community.

Have you ever attended a concert you found on The Setlist? What about one you heard mentioned by one of our on-air DJs?

If the answer to either is yes, please consider donating to KAXE right now. Federal funding to public media was cut last week, and we are facing a budget crisis. Defend community radio and donate now.

This Thursday, July 24, The Wicked Bees are playing 2nd St. Stage in Park Rapids. They are a reggae/ska band from Fargo who have released two EPs, the latest Knees arriving in 2024. Their sound mixes laid-back reggae with punk-inspired third wave ska. Music begins at 6 p.m.

Events this week include a car show in Grand Rapids, the Lakes Area Music Festival kickoff in Brainerd, Animal Tracks & Signs in Bagley and the Blackduck Woodcarvers Festival.

In Chisholm, Marty's Annual Front Porch Block Party is this Saturday at 3 p.m. Owler, The Hooligans, Tim Nelson and Terry Marie will perform from a porch with attendees recommended to bring their own lawn chairs. It takes place on the 300 block of Southwest First Street and the road will be closed to cars.

Katy Tessman & the Turnbuckles are coming to Grand Rapids on Saturday at 6 p.m, at Rapids Brewing Co. She is a singer-songwriter and author whose songs of resilience are inspired by her battle with cancer. Earlier this year she released her third album, an alt-country and folk rock affair called Turnbuckles.

The weekly live music spotlight is made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
