KAXE's weekly list of concerts near you features Charlie Maguire, S. Carey, Rich Mattson & The Northstars and Boss Mama and Serotiny.

Our featured concerts this week include a folk musician fusing music and Great Lakes history, an acclaimed indie rock figure playing a living room show in Grand Rapids and more!

Folk singer Charlie Maguire is touring Northeastern Minnesota throughout the month of May, performing at public libraries around the region. The concerts will feature his program Going to Bartalina: Songs & Stories of Commercial Sailing on the Great Lakes. This week he has shows daily throughout the Iron Range; a full schedule can be found here.

S. Carey is coming to Grand Rapids this Friday for a living room style show at Room 203 in the Old Central School building. Carey is best known as the drummer for Bon Iver but is also a prolific solo artist with five albums since his debut in 2010. His music is atmospheric and spacious, drawing from his love of jazz and classical. Music begins at 6 p.m. and is the final event of a opening week celebration for Fire in the Village's new art space.

Malachy started his radio career in 2017 at a college radio station, where he played weird music in the middle of the night to possibly no one. On a good night maybe his parents were listening. Nonetheless, he was hooked on public radio and is still doing it today.

He joined Northern Community Radio in 2022, where he gets to share his passion for local music as Producer of Minnesota Mixtape, an all Minnesota music show airing Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. You can also find him hosting Headwaters and curating The Setlist.
