We are covering the full weekend on this edition of The Setlist with a Sunday lunchtime spot to go along with Friday and Saturday evening shows. Options include hot club jazz, folk singer-songwriters, and even a Grateful Dead cover band that recreates specific Dead shows.
February is just about here and that means high quality jazz is on the way to Grand Rapids and Rapids Brewing Co. In their long running First Friday slot Sam Miltich & Friends are playing 6 p.m. The friends this week are Laura Caviani, a pianist with classical as well as jazz chops, and Jay Epstein on drums.
Coming to Bemidji and Brigid's Irish Pub Friday night at 8 p.m. is LazyLightning420. Despite their name, the Duluth based Grateful Dead cover band are serious musicians. Originally a duo of Marc Gartman (Damien, Glitterati, Coyote) and Erik Berry (Trampled by Turtles), the group has recently seen the addition of Teague Alexy (Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank). They recreate specific Dead shows and at Brigid's they will be focusing on Mar. 17, 1993 in Landover, MD.
Headwaters Music & Arts in Bemidji is hosting Kelley Smith and Doyle Turner at 6 p.m. Saturday evening. Check out Kelley's Area Voices conversation with host Andrew Dziengal of more information on the show. Turner is a White Earth Nation singer-songwriter from Mahnomen who performs solo and with The International Treasures.
Erik Koskinen will be making another trip north when he plays this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Aitkin. Just recently in Grand Rapids playing guitar with Dead Man Winter, this time Koskinen will be solo and performing his own music at Sampaguita for their Sunday Spot. He has a new solo album coming out Apr. 5, 2024 called "Down Street/Love Avenue".
