Police say the incident at the annual Obaashing Labor Day Celebration was isolated, and there is no threat to the public.

PONEMAH — At least one person was injured in what Red Lake Tribal Police describe as a “serious injury incident” in Ponemah during the annual Obaashing Labor Day Celebration Powwow.

Police responded the evening of Saturday, Sept. 5, and secured part of a ballfield near the powwow grounds. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information was released.

Powwow organizers apologized for the “unfortunate incident” in an online statement.
