DULUTH — The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office identified the man who died Saturday, Aug. 8, following a medical emergency in jail.
He was 29-year-old Jonathan David Polaski.
According to a news release from Thursday, Aug. 14, correctional officers at the Duluth jail learned of Polaski's emergency at 1:10 a.m. and began performing CPR and using a defibrillator.
The office stated St. Louis County deputies, along with the Duluth Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance, also attended to the emergency.
"Although extensive lifesaving measures were performed, the inmate did not regain consciousness and was pronounced deceased," the office stated.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
The state agency has not yet announced Polaski's cause of death.
St. Louis County court documents show Polaski entered police custody in April after violating his probation.
In 2023, he was convicted of possessing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and sentenced to three years of probation.
According to his social media, Polaski was the father of two.
