CROSSLAKE — A vehicle slammed into the Crosslake Post Office, damaging the building and requiring operations be moved to Pine River.
Crosslake Mayor Jackson Purfeerst reported no one was injured in the Tuesday, July 28, crash. But the building sustained significant damage near its front entry. U.S. Postal Service officials designated a temporary location for operations until further notice.
P.O. Box customers will be able pick up their parcel post and mail with a valid ID at the Pine River Post Office, which is located nearly 20 miles away. Local mail delivery will continue as normal, according to Purfeerst.
"While it would be convenient to access the Crosslake Post Office through the back door, that has been determined to be a security concern," Purfeerst wrote in a Facebook post. " ... I know this is a major disruption and certainly not convenient."
The Pine River Post Office is located at 330 Barclay Ave. W. It's open 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In a notice, the Postal Service stated operations would be diverted to Pine River until the facility is repaired or until further notice. The Postal Service further noted many of its retail services are available online at usps.com.
