MEADOWLANDS — A 55-year-old man was rescued on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, near Meadowlands after his snowmobile got stuck in a swamp.
The man was snowmobiling Wednesday night about 5 miles northwest of the remote St. Louis County city.
After his sled got stuck, he found refuge in a remote cabin, where he spent the night, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
The man contacted a friend on Wednesday and said he planned on walking to the road Thanksgiving morning. When the man was not at the road, the friend called 911.
Deputies and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad responded around 12:30 p.m. and found the man about 1.5-2 miles from the trailhead where he started.
The man was in good physical condition, other than being wet and cold, the release stated.
The sheriff's office wants to remind snowmobilers and others participating in winter recreation that despite recent cold temperatures, swamps and other bodies of water aren't yet frozen enough for safe travel.
