The $5,000 grant from the Region 2 Arts Council is intended to allow Indigenous creatives from Northern Minnesota the opportunity to further their work.

BEMIDJI — Indigenous artists, culture bearers and creatives can apply for funding for their work from the Region 2 Arts Council until Saturday, Nov. 1.

The council's Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Fellowship provides $5,000 to an enrolled tribal member or descendant in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Lake of the Woods, Becker, Cass, Itasca and Roseau counties.

The funds can be used for continuing works in progress, production costs, marketing of work, travel and research and community projects, or other uses.

The fellowship is intended to allow the most talented Indigenous creators in the area to further and innovate their work by providing financial support.

"Through such support, the Region 2 Arts Council aims to raise the profile of Indigenous creative and cultural work in the region and create a strong community of Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Fellows," the organization said in a news release.

Application information is on the council's website. Applications are due Saturday.
