BROOKSTON — With hunting season underway, the family of a Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa tribal member missing since March 8, 2024, is asking for the community’s continued help.
Peter M. Martin was last seen in Brookston in the Mahnomen neighborhood of the Fond du Lac Reservation. While his exact whereabouts remain unknown, this area and the surrounding region remain of particular interest, according to a news release. He is 31 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds.
All hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, who often traverse remote areas others do not, are asked to stay alert. These places may hold clues.
Martin’s family urges everyone spending time in the woods this season to remain extra observant and report anything unusual that could help bring answers to his loved ones. If you find any clues — such as clothing, remains or suspicious items — do not approach or disturb anything. Authorities ask you to mark your location using GPS and immediately contact law enforcement.
"Martin’s disappearance has deeply affected his family and the Fond du Lac Band community," the release stated. " ... The family asks all media outlets, social media users, and community leaders to help amplify this message."
A reward of up to $15,000 is being offered for credible information related to Martin’s disappearance, including $10,000 from the Gaagige-Mikwendaagoziwag Reward Fund through the state Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office. The other $5,000 comes from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services.
