MOUNTAIN IRON — Arrowhead public health organizations are forming a new Iron Range Suicide Prevention Coalition, with a public kickoff meeting in Mountain Iron on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The group will be focused on preventing suicide in the region, a news release from St. Louis County Public Health said, and is motivated by concerning trends and a desire to develop new solutions and supports.
The meeting is free to attend. It's designed to bring community members together for discussion to gain a better understanding of the impact of suicide and build a team for future work.
Anyone who lives or works on the Iron Range who is interested in suicide prevention is encouraged to attend.
The meeting at the Mountain Iron Community Center will start with an open house from 4-5 p.m. From 5-7 p.m., there will be a short presentation, a listening session and identification of next steps.
The public health team said the Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention Program, Northeast Service Collaborative, St. Louis County Family Services Collaborative, Regional Suicide Prevention Coordinator and Carlton-Cook-Lake-St. Louis Community Health Board are already involved.
Questions about the coalition or kickoff should be sent to public health educator Kyra Kjeldahl or program coordinator Josh Gorham.
