WALKER — The Cass County Soil and Water Conservation District will host its Second Annual Woodlands for Wildlife Event on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Walker Area Community Center.
The free event focuses on practical ways to improve woodland habitat, the SWCD stated in a news release. It's part of efforts to provide landowners with the knowledge and resources to sustain the long-term health of forests.
The SWCD requests advance registration online or by texting 218-833-2492 with your name, number of people attending and dietary restrictions, as a barbecue lunch will be provided.
Check-in for the event begins at 9 a.m., with free coffee and doughnuts available. A presentation and Q&A starts at 9:30 a.m., with the free lunch and networking beginning at 11 a.m.
Dan Steward is this year's featured speaker. He is a retired woodland professional and former forestry management coordinator for the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources. He'll share how he manages his 40 acres of woods to enhance wildlife habitat, improve forest health and responsibly manage timber to provide income.
"This event is a great opportunity for anyone who owns or enjoys woodland to hear real-world strategies for creating wildlife habitat while maintaining healthy forests," stated Ryan Carlson, Cass SWCD resource conservationist, in the release.
"Whether your passion is deer hunting, grouse hunting, bird watching, or simply leaving your woods better for the next generation, you'll walk away with ideas you can use."
