Current, former local women elected officials feature in Beltrami County panel

The Beltrami County Historical Society will present “Women Elected to Lead: Voices from Local Government” on Saturday in Bemidji.

BEMIDJI — The Beltrami County Historical Society will highlight women in local government in a Saturday, June 21, panel.

“Women Elected to Lead: Voices from Local Government” will explore the challenges, responsibilities and rewards of local leadership and the importance of civic participation and representation.

The panel is at 10 a.m. at the Beltrami County History Center in Bemidji. It is free and open to the public.

Local historian Lois Jenkins will moderate the discussion and offer historical context about women who have served in elected office throughout the region.

The panel includes former Bemidji mayor Rita Albrecht, Bemidji City Councilor Gwenia and former Cass Lake mayor Elaine Fleming.
