ST. PAUL — Republican state Sen. Robert Farnsworth of Hibbing was elected chair of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Advisory Board at a special meeting in St. Paul early Wednesday, March 26.
Justin Eichorn was named the IRRRB chair late last month but lost the position after resigning from the Senate on March 20. He was arrested three days prior in a law enforcement sting operation after he allegedly attempted to solicit a 17-year-old for paid sex, who turned out to be an undercover officer.
A special election to fill Eichorn's seat is set for April 29. The winner will serve on the Board.
All expenditures and projects made by the commissioner of the Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation must be submitted to the IRRRB.
The Board is made up of the state senators and representatives with at least one-third of their constituents in the department's service area, plus one state senator appointed by the Senate Majority Leader.
Rep. Roger Skraba of Ely was named vice chair in February and keeps that position.
