In October, the weather service is focused on recruiting observers who are interested in measuring and reporting snowfall, snow depth and snow water equivalent.

DULUTH — The National Weather Service in Duluth is recruiting new observers through the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network, also known as CoCoRaHS.

This is a nonprofit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation, including rain, hail and snow.

"Our CoCoRaHS observers are a vital part of our operations here at NWS Duluth and they provide high quality data for natural resources, education and research applications well beyond the National Weather Service," a news release stated.

In the month of October, the weather service is focused on recruiting observers who are interested in measuring and reporting wintertime precipitation: snowfall, snow depth and snow water equivalent.

Those who sign up this month will gain access to special live training with National Weather Service-Duluth meteorologists to teach them all about winter time observations. No experience is necessary and anyone can join. Visit cocorahs.org to learn more and sign up.
