BEMIDJI — Bagley and Bemidji residents will have a chance to tour a 3D mammography truck on Oct. 7.
The truck will visit the Sanford Bagley Clinic from 10 to 11 a.m. It will then be at the Sanford Joe Lueken Cancer Center from noon to 2 p.m.
Mammograms are the first line of defense for detecting breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages. However, Sanford said research shows many women forgo screenings due to barriers like proximity to a health care facility, lack of transportation and cost.
Sanford Health said it's planning to bring 3D mammography technology to more women in Northern Minnesota. Mobile services will add more than 1,100 screenings a year, with appointments typically taking less than 25 minutes.
The first phase for mobile mammography in the Bemidji region will include Walker, Bagley, Blackduck, Cass Lake and Park Rapids.
