ALASKA TOWNSHIP — A 76-year-old woman died Friday morning, Jan. 12, in a head-on collision with a pickup truck after passing a farm implement in rural Beltrami County.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office received a 7:15 a.m. report of the crash on County Highway 32 (Lumberjack Road Northwest), about 4 miles east of Highway 89 in Alaska Township.

The woman was traveling east in a 2014 Buick Verano sedan and passed farm equipment on the roadway in a no passing zone at the crest of a hill, the sheriff’s office reported in its preliminary investigation. A 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck was westbound and struck the Buick head-on.

First responders attempted exhaustive life-saving measures at the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead. Authorities withheld the driver’s identity, pending notification of family.

“The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family,” a news release stated.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was not transported by ambulance.

Assisting at the scene were Red Lake and Blackduck ambulances, Red Lake Police Department, Red Lake and Alaska fire departments, the Minnesota State Patrol and North Country First Responders.
