Pickup hits 7-year-old after she runs into Hwy 2 traffic

Piper Noelle Dellapaz was transported to Essentia Health-Deer River with non-life-threatening injuries.

BENA — A 7-year-old girl is recovering after a pickup truck hit her on Highway 2 in Bena.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash reported just before 7 Saturday night.

According to the crash report, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was eastbound on the highway passing the Big Winnie General Store.

The girl ran out into traffic and was struck by the pickup.

Piper Noelle Dellapaz, 7, was transported to Essentia Health-Deer River with non-life-threatening injuries. The state patrol listed her city of residence as unknown in the most recent update.

The driver of the pickup, 68-year-old Daniel Mark Thompson of Bemidji, was not injured.
