GRAND RAPIDS — Emma Krab has joined the KAXE News Team as a reporter for the Arrowhead region.

Krab reported for Nebraska Public Media from 2022 to 2023 with a focus on rural issues. Her journalism work has earned her a national award from the Broadcast Educators Association and National Broadcast, among other recognitions.

In 2026, Krab graduated with her master's degree from Iowa State University's Creative Writing and Environment Program. She also holds degrees in journalism and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

As a seventh-generation Nebraskan, Krab said she looks forward to discovering rural life in Northern Minnesota.

"Each rural place is so unique, right, and so I'm excited to just dig into what makes Grand Rapids and the Arrowhead region unique," she said.

She added that her experience with environmental journalism will guide her reporting as she turns her attention to community issues — including education, housing and public health — and local government.

"Even though I'm not going be covering that beat," she said, "I think where we are and the weather and the industries around us play such a big role in our lives."

In her first two weeks, Krab reported on community events, including a groundbreaking event at the Boswell solar plant near Cohasset and the launching of a new direct reduced iron simulator at the University of Minnesota Natural Resources Research Institute lab in Coleraine.

Krab joined the staff on July 20 following Megan Buffington's relocation to the Brainerd area, where Buffington will continue to report for KAXE.
