Border News Roundup: Mining Permit Legal Battles and Snow Conditions

This week on the Border News Roundup editor Marshall Helmberger fills us in on:

  • An investigation launched by Rep. Betty McCollum into comments that were collected by EPA but were not submitted to the MPCA and should have been part of the permitting process for Polymet
  • The Indian Bands Taskforce released a report on status of area wild rice beds and the effects that sulfates have been having on them.
  • Legal challenges to the new waste water permits that were issued to MinnTac.  Both Environmental groups and US Steel have filed challenges.
  • Conditions of area trails and a friendly reminder that ice conditions are a little unpredictable to be careful on the ice.

Tune in Friday Mornings for the Border News Roundup.

Sarah Bignall has led KAXE through a period of bold growth and recognition since becoming CEO/General Manager in 2022, including being named Ampers 2025 Station of the Year. Under her leadership, the station’s award-winning newsroom has expanded local coverage across Northern Minnesota and elevated KAXE’s digital reach to record levels.
