Social media inundates us with information. Much of it is bogus, or a little truth embellished with a bunch of nonsense.
A recent study in the journal, Science, found that false news and information, and outright lies travel much faster and reach more people than credible news and information.
It can be difficult to find accurate and reliable sources of information about issues and events. Navigating your way through the blizzard of tweets and social media posts is one of the topics that will be addressed at a conference this Thursday at Itasca Community College called Navigating Information in a Post-Truth Era.
Nora Paul is retired Professor at the University of MN’s Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She is one of the featured speakers at the conference. Nora will lead a session on “How to vet information for accuracy”. Heidi Holtan and Michael Small spoke with Nora. Hear the full conversation.
