In the Spring of 2017, a group of youth in Ball Club started to envision a community park where three old pieces of playground equipment and some grass exists today. They saw a new playground that honors their Ojibwe culture and language and is accessible for young and old alike, they saw a basketball court, and a “chill space” with seating and a fire ring and they saw a picnic area too.
Fast forward to today and the playground is designed and fundraising is underway with the goal of breaking ground the beginning of August.
The Circle of Healing has partnered with Mobility Mania and Deer River Schools to host a benefit - a way for the broader community to get involved and show their support for the Ball Club youth and their vision. The “A Park for Ball Club” isJune 23 from 3-7pm at the Deer River High School Commons!
