Let's Visit Ely: Ely Winter Festival

Snow Sculpture at Ely Winter Festival

The Ely Winter Festivalkicks off this weekend!  It began in 1984 and has, over the years, morphed and changed into the nearly 2 week winter extravaganze that it is today.  Snow sculptures, fat bike races, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, sled dog rides, guided snowshoeing and classes available from beading bracelets to tanning animal hides, this event has something for everyone.  Shauna Vega is one of the organizers for the festival.  She talks about all the magic of the Ely Winterfest in this segment of Let's Visit!

Katie Carter started at Northern Community Radio in 2008 as Managing Editor of the station's grant-funded, online news experiment Northern Community Internet. She returned for a second stint in 2016-23. She produced Area Voices showcasing the arts, culture, and history stories of northern Minnesota.
