Dear KAXE Family,
Holidays are about traditions. My dad baked bread, my Uncle Dean gave me a jumbo pack of Juicy Fruit, and my mom proudly displayed her hand-painted ceramic Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus figurines. She wasn’t particularly artsy, but she was proud of Mr. and Mrs. C.
Over the years, as my life has changed and I’ve experienced loss like many of you, traditions like these have taken on a deeper, more personal meaning. When the time came to prepare for the estate sale of my parent’s home, I made sure Mr. and Mrs. C relocated to my house. Now, each year, they bring back my mom and the sparkle and humor she brought to our family.
If you went by ads or Instagram reels alone, this season is all about joy. But for many it’s a season of tough times and missing people.
It’s not easy, but for me, it helps to take the time to think about what truly matters. When it comes right down to it, besides my family and friends, it is the KAXE community that keeps me going. What makes KAXE special is you. KAXE’s listeners and supporters are more than an audience; you are my community. You’ve been with us through every season—sharing your knowledge of your community, birds at your feeder, your ideas, and even constructive challenges that help us grow.
KAXE isn’t just a radio station. It’s a lifeline, a friend, and a source of news and connection.
Every story we tell, every song we play, every voice I hear reminds me that I'm part of something bigger: a community where no one is alone, even if we have different opinions and beliefs.
Whether it’s the infectious spirit of the Crabb sisters on Green Cheese trivia, following the trail of voles with John Latimer, or hearing Kari play a song that feels like home, KAXE weaves our community together.
Our community is diverse, and so is our mission at KAXE. This year, your support made so much possible: Local election coverage, artist stories, Minnesota musicians, Grand Rapids Riverfest and stories as wide ranging as sandhill cranes, helium, veteran recognitions and even breakfast. You helped KAXE reflect the spirit of Northern Minnesota. Together, we’ve ensured access to meaningful connections for everyone, no matter where they live and who they are. And we are ready for even more in the year ahead.
Today, above all, I want to thank you.
Your support is the reason KAXE continues to thrive as a source of joy, belonging, and community, for me, you, and so many others.
We have exciting plans for 2025, and I can’t wait to share them with you. May this season bring you comfort, connection, and the knowledge that you make a difference.
With gratitude and love,
Heidi Holtan
