MN Writer Rachel Brougham Explores How Grief Changes Us in Her Personal Story "Widowland"

Widowland by Rachel Brougham
Widowland by Rachel Brougham

Rachel Brougham is a writer living in Minneapolis, and by all accounts she’s had a great life: good friends, a dream job, family, a son and a happy marriage with her husband Colin. But in 2018 while biking home from work, Colin was struck and killed by a train, just minutes from their home.

Rachel has spent the last few years raising their son and trying to balance moving forward while still processing her grief. This is chronicled in her new book, Widowland.

Widowland is honest and vulnerable and compulsively readable. It’s, as Rachel puts it, a book for those who are grieving as well as those grief-adjacent. But most of all, it’s a love letter to her late husband Colin and to their son.

Widowland can be purchased through The Black Hat Press or your local bookstore.

Tammy works at Bemidji State University's library, and she hosts "What We're Reading," a show about books and authors.
