One Book One Minnesota: A Statewide Book Club

Social distancing and sheltering in place has not been easy, but I remain appreciative of the power of books to comfort, to entertain, to take us out of our heads for a while, to allow us to keep learning about ourselves during these tough times. That’s why I was so glad to hear about the One Book/ One Minnesota program. It’s a state-wide book club sponsored by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library as the Minnesota Center for the Book, in partnership with State Library Services.

And the inaugural book is Kate DiCamillo’s cherished story, Because of Winn-Dixie. It’s the story of a young girl named Opal: “She  goes into a Winn-Dixie supermarket—and comes out with a dog. A big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor. A dog she dubs Winn-Dixie.” (GoodReads) The ebook is available now and you can visit One Book One Minnesota to find related videos, photos, reading guides, AND Author Kate DiCamillo will host a statewide discussion in May!

One Book/One Minnesota is an opportunity for you and your family to read a great book and to take comfort in knowing we are all part of this community. Keep reading, keep sharing on our What We're Reading Facebook page, and we’ll get through this together.
