Sculptor Susan Feigenbaum's Flights of Fantasy

...moving to Minnesota introduced me to a lot of new things, one of them was the ceramic tradition here...that became very interesting to me. And as a graphic designer, everything is very flat...I began to feel sort of disassociation with actual feeling, tactile experiences...I was searching for something to get my hands into, literally, and actually feel an art medium. I didn't want to have a paintbrush and be separated from the the paint,  so the clay, the idea of clay and getting my hands into clay was very appealing...it was so totally different from what I was doing as professionally. - Susan Feigenbaum

Susan Feigenbaum's sculpture exhibit, Flights of Fantasy: Birds, Nature, and Art at Play is currently on view at the McRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids. In this Area Voices segment, learn how she transitioned from a career in graphic design to one in ceramics, find out how she discovered her artistic voice in the new medium, and hear how she developed this phenomenal show abstractly depicting Minnesota birds in their natural habitats!

Susan will present a virtual artist talk this Wednesday at 6pm via the MacRostie Art Center.
