Luisa Fernanda Garcia-Gomez will exhibit this summer at the Nemeth

“It really opens your mind, it gets you exposed to a bigger world.  It triggers a whole different part of our brain…It’s actually been proven that it boosts cognitive abilities and it’s something that absolutely everyone can enjoy.” Nicolle LaFleur on the importance of accessible arts experiences.

The Nemeth Art Center in downtown Park Rapids is open for the season and has a new person at the helm.  Nicolle LaFleur brings vast experiences of working in the arts to her role of Executive Director of the Nemeth.  We spoke with her on the morning show and she told us all about the exhibits coming to the gallery this summer as well as special events going on this summer including the monthly Second Saturday Happenings, the ongoing Arts Explorers Corner, and a community weaving opportunity.

Nicolle discussed why she’s passionate about creating accessible arts experiences people of all ages and how arts experiences can positively impact society overall.

The Why Treaties Matter: Self Government in the Dakota and Ojibwe Nations exhibit will end this weekend with a special closing celebration Sunday, May 25th from 11am to 4pm.  The public is invited to enjoy the afternoon of music and  listen to guest speakers who will share the stories and realities that this important exhibit touches upon.

“It really exposes us to different perspectives, not just our own view of the world.  It expresses the human reality… I also think it inspires peaceful self-expression.” Nicolle LaFleur on the social importance of art.
