On the first Friday of every month, we check in with Katie Marshall, the executive director of the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids. She fills us in on all the awesome First Friday arts happenings going on around town. Rustic Furniture at Frame Up, a stellar jazz band at the VFW, Poetry readings at Central Square Mall, a pop-up book store and pop-up thrift store and much much more at Central School are just a few of options for folks in Grand Rapids, MN this afternoon.
At the MacRostie this month the annual miniature show is a big show full of small things. The show features art less than 12 inches square and less than $100 in cost. Also new at the MacRostie this month is the work of Austin Stiegemeier whose large scale paintings offer a fascinating contrast to the miniature show.
We want to extend our excitement and congratulations to Katie as the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council has recently announced she is the recipient of the Maddie Simons Arts Advocate Award. Brava, Katie Marshall! This award is a well-deserved honor and we are incredibly grateful for all of your hard work and your passion for the arts in our region!
