Jonathan Thunder: Contemporary Native Artist

Jonathan Thunder is a painter, illustrator, experimental filmmaker and cartoonist.  Influenced by his native heritage, Thunder's bold, vibrant, work inspires conversation around contemporary and historical themes.  His illustrations accompany many Ojibwe language projects.  His artist in residence projects engage youth in the creation of public art.  His films ignite curiosity and wonder. Look for Thunder's upcoming projection installation at theTweed Museum in Duluth and his illustrations in the book "Bowwow Powwow," a children's book written in both Ojibwe and English. Katie Carter started at Northern Community Radio in 2008 as Managing Editor of the station's grant-funded, online news experiment Northern Community Internet. She returned for a second stint in 2016-23. She produced Area Voices showcasing the arts, culture, and history stories of northern Minnesota.
