Contra Dance Series in Bemidji

Katie Carter & Wendy Greenberg

Wendy Greenberg has been contra dancing most of her life.  It's an art form she learned from her folk dancing parents and something she's sought out and thoroughly enjoyed throughout her adult life. Greenberg received a grant through the Region 2 Arts Councilto share contra dance with the Bemidji area via a dance seriesshe orchestrated... Contra dance bands from Grand Forks and Duluth will travel to Bemidji, host musician workshops at Headwaters School of Music and the Artsand accompany a night of dancing at the Rail River Folk Schoolonce a month from July through December.  Everyone is welcome, no experience is necessary and you don't even need to take a dance partner with you.  Click on the link for this segment of Area Voices and a taste of the contra experience!   

Katie Carter started at Northern Community Radio in 2008 as Managing Editor of the station's grant-funded, online news experiment Northern Community Internet. She returned for a second stint in 2016-23. She produced Area Voices showcasing the arts, culture, and history stories of northern Minnesota.
