I often get recommendations from volunteers and listeners for albums or artists to check out. On-air volunteer, Andrew Dziengel sent me a note the other week letting me know I should check out a Minnesota band, Keep for Cheap, comparing them to Big Thief. This young band is one we should all be keeping our eyes on.
Based in St. Paul, the band is made up of 5 members, all new names to me: Autumn Vagle (she/her), Kate Malanaphy (she/they), Robert Northrup (he/him), Lydia Williams (she/they) and Ted Tiedemann (they/he). They are out with their debut album, Bundle.
They call the kind of music they play 'prairie rock', and somehow, I totally get it. Together since 2018, Bundle is their debut album and calls to mind creative spirits like Hop Along, Bad Bad Hats and yes, Big Thief. Looking forward to hearing more from these young musicians!
