From East Texas, Vincent Neil Emerson fits right in with fellow folk/country Texas songwriters like Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard & Rodney Crowell. In fact, Crowell heard himself and his friends reflected in Emerson's music, and immediately was drawn. But it wasn't just a replication of those earlier songwriters - it was music housed in that tradition but taken to the year 2021. Crowell was such a fan that he produced this record.
At only 29 years old, Emerson has already lived a life filled with strife: his fathers suicide, alcoholism, deaths of both his little brother and a best friend, dropping out of high school and homelessness. What comes out musically is authentic storytelling, presented in a simple form, yet impactful and entrancing.
