Writer Logan Steiner tells the story of Canadian author L.M. Montgomery in her new novel "After Anne."

Logan Steiner is a lawyer from Colorado, a big fan of Canadian writer L.M. Montgomery, and loves stories about the real lives of creators.

Steiner set out to learn more about Montgomery and found herself moved by Montgomery’s successes and hardships while the author was writing the beloved Anne of Green Gables stories.

In a recent What We're Reading interview, Steiner explained she wanted to be a writer since she was young. Once she learned about Montgomery’s hardships, Steiner was compelled to share her story.

But she decided to do so as a novel, rather than as a biography.

Steiner said in novel form, she was able to better share "the emotional underpinnings of Montgomery’s life. And fill in some of the gaps that the journals don't cover."

Steiner's book reveals the struggles Montgomery went through between her husband's mental illness, taking care of her family, and trying to keep her private life hidden from her public face.

While Montgomery's own life ended sadly and tragically in 1942, her work — over 20 novels — continues to inspire readers.
