Stories from you are at the core of KAXE, and have kept us going since 1976. Sharing stories makes us human and helps us understand each other in a sometimes isolated world.

This week we are looking for your swimming stories.

Where is your favorite place to swim in Northern Minnesota? Have a story to go with it? Let us know!

Here's what we heard

Linda said her favorite spot is Whipholt Beach on Leech Lake.

Bubba too told us his favorite swim spot was Leech Lake on the west side of Bear Island.

Charlie wrote: "I can't recall where my favorite swim spot actually is, but I remember the experience. I had been stuck in a long line of construction traffic somewhere near Orr, with no air conditioning on a 95+ degree day with no wind.

"After finally breaking free, I pulled over at the next river crossing, scrambled down a bank, and went for a swim - clothes and all. I'm sure I looked unhinged to any passerby, but it was the most refreshing swim of my life.

"I spent about 20 minutes on the bank and watched the birds diving to and from their nests under the bridge, and once I was dry enough, I drove home. The delay was well worth it!"

John Latimer and Carolyn King both recommend the mine pits, including Tioga in Grand Rapids.

Steve texted, "My family goes to Cotton Beach in Coleraine. Good for a stop at the ice cream shop nearby when we're done!"

Glen and Kitty wrote, "Our beach on Pelican Lake in Crow Wing County. It's the largest natural glacial lake in the county. There's a ledge that goes out for a few hundred yards before a drop off."

And Keith texted us, "In high school in Brainerd, THE best place to swim were the iron ore pits in Crosby. There were several rope swings that kept us entertained all day long. After a workout in the weight room for summer conditioning, me and my buddies loved it and still talk about it!"

In addition to your stories and our weekly question, KAXE's newsroom is creating a public beach guide for northern Minnesota. Be a part of our Callouts and tell us about your favorite beach!
