A wildfire threatens giant sequoia trees in Yosemite National Park
More than 500 mature sequoias were threatened but there were no reports of severe damage to any named trees, such as the 3,000-year-old Grizzly Giant.
Erroll Garner: 'Concert by the Sea'
Erroll Garner became a jazz star even though he never learned to read music. He taught himself to play the piano and landed a gig on the radio at age 10. As an adult, Garner recorded the live album, Concert by the Sea, on one melodic night in a church in Carmel, California.

Commentator Lois Shea coaches youth softball in Warner, N.H. The team is made up of girls 10 and younger. Earlier in the season, Shea let the girls on the team suggest team names. They came up with things like "The Goats" "The Wiz" and "The Whales." Lois Shea has an essay in the book Mommy Wars, a collection published by Random House in March.
