Kids give us hope!  Nature gives us hope!  Phenology Talkbacks celebrate both of those!  Phenology is the rhythmic biological nature of events as they relate to climate. Tuesday mornings we hear from kids as they share their observations of nature. This morning we heard from kids at Pike Lake Elementary School and North Shore Community School.

John and Heidi reminisced today about the history of Phenology at the station.

Kids at Pike Lake Elementary report lots of lichen, frogs, and many other signs of spring.

Students at North Shore Community School have seen worms, birds of prey, a porcupine and so much more!

  What have you seen outside?!

Don't hesitate to send along your observations! We'd love to hear from you.

If you are a teacher who would like more information about the Phenology Curriculum, email John, we'd love to have your students involved!

If you love Phenology, check out our KAXE-KBXE Season Watchpage on Facebook.

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
