Friday mornings during Border News Roundup we get a chance to check in with Marshall Helmberger, the editor and publisher of The Timberjay newspaper serving NE Minnesota.
Monday is the end of the main session for the Minnesota Legislature. Marshall talks about thecontroversy over funding and car emissions. Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, issued an ultimatum to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency last week to halt the proposed new “clean car” emissions standards or the budget will not move forward. Without an environmental budget agreement there would be no new funding for many Minnesota entities including the DNR, which would lead to the closing of state parks.
Marshall tells us that the Ely school board is in a debate over a book banning requestfor the book “I am Still Here, Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness,” by Austin Channing Brown. Some parents and students are asking to prohibit the use of this book in the high school English curriculum, because it is racist, anti-white people and filled with hate speech.
