Northwest Tech in Bemidji locked down after student made gun comments

Bemidji police quickly located the person April 15, 2026, and used crisis intervention and found no physical threat. The student was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

BEMIDJI — A lockdown occurred Wednesday, April 15, at Northwest Technical College in Bemidji after a report around 10:40 a.m. of an upset student mentioning a gun while entering an occupied classroom.

The Bemidji Police Department reported officers quickly located the person and used crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.

According to a news release, the student had stated, "I need a gun" and ordered an unknown person to "bring me a gun."

Authorities determined there was no physical threat and helped secure the building and release the lockdown.

The student was taken to Sanford Health-Bemidji hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

The incident is under investigation.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol and Bemidji State Public Safety also responded.
