WALKER — An area of downtown Walker reopened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, after a damaged natural gas line led to the evacuation of residents and businesses earlier in the day.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said a utility company struck the 3-inch line while working near Michigan Avenue and Seventh Street around 2 p.m.
The damage has since been mitigated, and impacted businesses were expected to reopen Wednesday and Thursday, a news release stated.
The sheriff’s office said some work would likely continue at the site through Thursday.
For questions about natural gas service, contact your service provider, the release said.
The Walker police, fire and public works departments assisted in the response.
