ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Transportation's Name a Snowplow contest is back for the sixth year.
The agency selects eight witty, unique and Minnesota- or winter-themed names from public submissions, with one named snowplow for each MnDOT district.
Last year’s winners that are now plowing Northern Minnesota’s roads are Snowtorious B.I.G., You’re Welcome, Don’tchaSnow and Skol Plow.
You can submit one name idea until noon Dec. 19.
There are a few more basic rules from MnDOT:
- Submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters (including letters and spaces).
- Gosh darn it, nothing vulgar please. Any submissions that include profanity or other inappropriate language will not be considered.
- Snowplows are nonpartisan, so politically inspired names (including phrases, slogans or plays on politicians’ names) will not be considered.
- Past winners will also not be considered. You can find a full list of past winners on MnDOT's Name a Snowplow website.
The agency will select finalists and invite the public to vote on their favorites in January. The winning names are typically announced in February.
