BARNUM — A 16-year-old boy is recovering after he was sliced across the chest by a box cutter Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, at Barnum High School.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office reported the assault prompted lockdown procedures at the school. Deputies arrived and found both students under the care of school staff.
A 14-year-old girl was arrested and transported to the Arrowhead Juvenile Center in Duluth, pending felony second-degree assault charges. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The sheriff’s office said the assault was an isolated incident and there is no additional danger to the Barnum students or community.
