Lost In The Trees On World Cafe

Hailing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Lost in the Trees is an orchestral folk collective founded by band leader Ari Picker. Inspired by his classical studies at Berklee, Picker began a solo bedroom-recording project that evolved into the folk-and-symphony group he now heads. Acting as part composer and part songwriter, Picker's arrangements harness the dramatic power of classical music meshed with the intimacy of singer-songwriter music. Lost in The Trees' standard rhythm section is complemented by traditional strings and brass, along with the accordion, bells, banjo and mandolin, all of which push Picker's strong vocals to great heights.

Earlier this year, the band's debut album, All Alone in an Empty House, was given a make-over for its release on Anti Records. The response was overwhelming. As said in an earlier review by NPR Music's Bob Boilen,"this is mighty potent stuff."
