United Against Hate Art and Music Event Saturday in Bemidji

Katrina Knutson Unite Against Hate Art

Unity in the community, what does that mean?  It can seem overwhelming or seem utopian.  Is that really possible?  If we don’t try; if we don’t have the discussions that we have to have that are a little bit awkward or a little uncomfortable… if we don’t have those conversations, if we don’t get into those sticky spots then things will remain the same. – Dan Gannon

The second annual Unite Against Hate art exhibit and concert will happen Saturday night at Brigid’s Pub in Bemidji.Organizer Dan Gannonstopped by the morning show to talk about the art included in this year’s show and the musicians sharing their craft Saturday night.

Visual art included in the event will come from a wide array of creators varying from high school aged kids to well-established professional artists.  Jason Ewert will present a film he created about the topic of missing and murdered indigenous women, DJ Divewire will provide tunes as will Thomas X, Sonny Johnsonand Lady Midnight

“You can go anywhere on the planet and run into disagreeable people or people who are offensive or don’t treat others with kindness, respect and love… that’s an individual not a community…that doesn’t mean every person of that background treats you that way.” – Dan Gannon
