In this segment of Let’s Visit, we meet Bagley, MN resident Marty Cobenais. Marty and his wife Dawn Loeffler run a special place on Lake Lomond in Bagley, Minnesota called Farm by the Lake. Farm by the Lake has been a nonprofit since 1983. Started by Richard Davids, an author and editor, it was originally two separate farms, one with cattle and other livestock and the other with apple orchards and vegetable gardens. Today, the vegetable and apple orchards are part of what make up Farm by the Lake, a retreat center and unique space that has become home to family events, outdoor concerts, special group retreats and much more.
Marty discusses Farm by the Lake as well as his work as a Clearwater County Soil and Water Supervisor. In the Bagley area and Clearwater County, three watersheds are maintained for future generations. The Clearwater, the Wild Rice and the Mississippi river all run through the area. So far, as Marty says, “It’s named Clearwater County for a reason,” and to date, the soil and water health is in good condition so the county is living up to its name.
Farm by the Lake is open for booking and also hosting outdoor concerts, story-telling experiences and much more through this spring and throughout the summer. All events are either free of charge or have a very low cost in order to best serve the Bagley community and surrounding areas. The next public event will be a writing workshop hosted by author Wendell Affield. That will happen Sunday, April 7th at 3pm and will be free to attend.
